The United States has announced a broad new sanctions package aimed at Iran’s aviation industry, placing renewed scrutiny on intermediaries and commercial networks operating through Turkey and several other countries.

The measures target 36 entities connected to aircraft procurement, maintenance, logistics and financial services that Washington says helped Iranian carriers obtain restricted equipment or technology.

Turkey-based links are included alongside entities in the United Arab Emirates, Malaysia and Kazakhstan. The designations do not amount to sanctions against the Turkish state, but they may affect companies and individuals identified in the network.

The action expands pressure beyond Iran’s Mahan Air and signals that businesses providing parts, fuel or other aviation services could face restrictions if US authorities determine that they support sanctioned carriers.

Aviation specialists have warned that broad restrictions can also affect civilian connectivity and access to safety-related components. Companies operating across jurisdictions will now face stronger demands to examine customers, ownership structures and supply chains.

For Türkiye, a major regional transport hub, the announcement could lead banks and aviation businesses to strengthen compliance checks. The practical impact will depend on enforcement and on how international companies respond to the new designations.
