Turkey has said it could help meet Saudi Arabia’s technical military requirements under a recently signed trilateral defence agreement that also includes Pakistan.

Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan described Ankara as ready to provide assistance as Houthi attacks from Yemen place increasing pressure on Saudi cities and infrastructure.

The Mecca Joint Defence Agreement treats an attack against one participating country as an attack against all three members.

Houthi forces have expanded strikes on Saudi territory, energy installations and shipping routes since announcing a naval blockade in July.

Pakistan has not committed forces to the conflict but has reiterated that it would respond if circumstances required action under the pact.

Turkey has condemned the Houthi attacks while continuing to support diplomatic proposals aimed at ending the fighting and protecting regional commerce.

Fidan stressed that the agreement is not designed to replace existing alliances, but its implementation could deepen Turkish defence exports and security cooperation in the Gulf.
