Turkey joined Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Pakistan in affirming Riyadh’s right to defend itself under international law as attacks by Yemen’s Houthi movement intensify regional tensions.
The four countries’ foreign ministers issued the joint statement after meeting on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
They strongly condemned Houthi attacks against Saudi Arabia and expressed firm support for the kingdom’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and national security.
The ministers also stressed the need to preserve safe navigation through the region’s waterways, where military activity has disrupted commercial shipping and increased risks for energy supplies.
The statement voiced concern about continuing conflicts across the Middle East and warned that further escalation could deepen humanitarian and economic instability.
Despite supporting Saudi defensive measures, the four governments said dialogue and diplomacy remain the only sustainable means of resolving the region’s disputes.
They also reaffirmed support for Yemen’s internationally recognised government and its efforts to restore stability and pursue a political settlement to the country’s prolonged conflict.
