Istanbul : On September 2, two Turkish-flagged cargo vessels collided in the Sea of Marmara, off the coast of Silivri near Istanbul. The cargo ship Tuğberk İmamoğlu, carrying rolled steel from İskenderun to the Black Sea, sank within minutes in waters approximately 900 meters deep. All 10 crew members remain missing. The Turkish Navy located the wreck using the rescue vessel TCG Akın’s sonar system, and search operations are ongoing. A court in Silivri has arrested the captain and third officer of the oil tanker Alsu, which was involved in the collision, while four other suspects were released under judicial supervision. An expert report cited a chain of negligence and faulty electronic systems as contributing factors to the accident.
