Morocco’s Authenticity and Modernity Party led preliminary parliamentary election results, winning 97 seats in the 395-member House of Representatives.

The monarchy-aligned party emerged ahead in a contest shaped by public frustration over unemployment, inequality and access to housing, education and healthcare.

Official turnout was reported at 38%, the lowest level since 2007 and substantially below participation in the previous parliamentary election.

Younger Moroccans have expressed particular dissatisfaction with established political parties, while youth unemployment remains high despite economic growth and increased foreign investment.

The next government will oversee major infrastructure spending as Morocco prepares to co-host the 2030 FIFA World Cup with Spain and Portugal.

Supporters argue that large-scale investment can create jobs and modernise public services, but critics say economic gains have not been distributed evenly between regions or social groups.

Although parliament determines the governing coalition, Morocco’s monarchy retains extensive authority over strategic policy, security and major national projects.
